Research Update in Audiology. Drugs to help hearing loss!

Action on Hearing Loss is a non-profit organization that has reported there are 5 drugs in the final stages of clinical trials and there are another 13 drugs in the early stages of clinical development. Many of these new drugs are expected to hit the market by 2020.

Below is a summary of the 5 drugs that are in the final stages of clinical trials:
a. STS- developed by Fennec Pharmaceuticals- to help product hearing against cisplatin induced hearing loss
b. AuriPro- developed by Otonomy for otitis media treatment
c. AM-101- developed by Auris Medical for tinnitus treatment
d. OTO-104- developed by Otonomy for Meniere’s Disease treatment
e. D-methionine- developed by Southern Illinois for protection against noise-induced hearing loss
