There is a time in almost everyone’s life when you look in a mirror and you see your parent staring back at you. If it’s particularly striking you hard in the area around your eyes then it’s most likely a blepharoplasty you desire.
There are multiple treatments that can freshen up the eyes such as Botulinum toxin injections, fillers, resurfacing procedures or intense pulse light procedures but there are just some instances where an operation is the only way to really correct the effects of time and genetics.
In cases where the upper eyelids are heavy, full and seem to be closing in on the eyelashes a procedure can be performed to remove the extra skin, trim out some muscle and extract the excessive fat to improve the situation. For those who wear makeup this can allow a larger surface to display your beauty. For some it may mean a greater expanse of the visual field especially looking up. For others it may just make you look less fatigued and more vibrant. It can be done under local anesthesia or general depending on the patient’s and surgeon’s preference. It takes about a week to 2 weeks to recover.
In cases where there is excessive bulging beneath the eyes which can also make one look old and tired, a procedure can be performed which either eliminates the fat or moves it around to smooth out the surface beneath the eyes. This may also involve some excision of muscle and skin depending on the situation. A lower lid blepharoplasty can also be done under local or general anesthesia and takes the same time to recover although there can be some temporary bruising which eventually removes.
Most of the time these procedures are simple and quick. There are some issues which may temper your ability to have this procedure done which can be taking medicines which cause bleeding, problems with bleeding, trouble closing the eye or dry eye.
