Rhinoplasty in East Brunswick, NJ
Board-certified New Jersey otolaryngologist Dr. Scott Kay, FACS, performs rhinoplasty for the residents of East Brunswick, NJ.
Revision Rhinoplasty / Rhinoplasty
The nose job, or more scientifically known as rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure that changes the appearance of the nose through reconstruction or repair. The procedure can address profile, length, width, nose tips and other dimensions. The ultimate goal of rhinoplasty is to produce a nose that is aesthetically pleasing and yet functional.
Revision rhinoplasty is performed to improve the results of the first surgical procedure. Patients typically undergo this procedure if they have functional concerns about their initial surgery or are not satisfied with the initial outcome.
Benefits of Revision Rhinoplasty / Rhinoplasty
These procedures offer many desirable benefits to the patient, including the following:
- Easier breathing and improvement of other nasal functions
- More attractive profile
- Increase in self-confidence
How is The Procedure Performed?
Surgeons perform both rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty in the same way and by using general anesthesia to minimize the sensation for the patient. Either an open or closed technique is used.
The open technique relies on internal incisions combined with a cut across the columella, the area between the nostrils. Dr. Kay uses the open technique to visually inspect the bone and cartilage, which is particularly helpful when correcting symmetry problems, including correcting nose angels and deprojecting the tip in relationship to the lip.
The closed technique uses internal incision to reshape cartilage and bone. It is most often used to minimize the dorsal hump, fix irregularities with the tip or bridge and to straighten out a nose that is crooked.
