Importance of Regularly Cleaning Your Hearing Aid in Princeton, NJ

Hearing aids are a trusted and effective device to amplify sound and create a better quality of life for those with hearing difficulties. In most cases, hearing loss is related to age and, as a result, cannot be corrected. However, with the help of a hearing aid, you have the freedom to continue living a full and independent life. Given the vital role that these devices play in maintaining a high quality of life, regular care and cleaning is key. So if you have been wondering why regular hearing aid cleaning is important, here is what you need to know:

Clear Hearing Aids = Clear Hearing

The hearing aid’s position in the ear and frequency of use means that it is susceptible to becoming dirty over time. Accumulation on the hearing aid can, as a result, lead to muffled sound, feedback or damage. If you have noticed your hearing aid is not working as well as it should, then you may be overdue for a hearing aid cleaning.

Cleaning ITE vs BTE Hearing Aids

Different types of cleaning are recommended for different types of hearing aids. If you have an in the ear (ITE) hearing aid, be sure to clean the openings with a soft-bristled toothbrush or hearing aid brush provided by your doctor. Using a wax pick, clean out any remaining debris that the brush was not able to reach. Finally, wipe down the device with a dry, clean cloth.

If you have behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids, begin by removing any visible debris with a soft brush or dry cloth. Remove the earmold to wipe it daily and soak it in warm, soapy water weekly. Finally, force water out of the tubing with a bulb blower. Allow the earmold and tubing to dry overnight.
