Tinnitus is a sound heard within the head or ears when no external sound is present. Many people pronounce it as tin-NYE-tus as if it is a condition such as laryngitis. However, it is actually pronounced TIN-ni-tus. No hard ‘I’ in the word at all and with the emphasis on the first syllable.
