Chin Implants in Plainsboro, NJ

A chin implant can reverse the look of a weak chin, giving you a brand new sense of confidence in your appearance. Board-certified New Jersey otolaryngologist Dr. Scott Kay performs chin implants for patients in the Central New Jersey area at Princeton Otolaryngology Associates.

What Are Chin Implants?

A chin implant is performed to enhance the chin and create more definition in this area. Patients with receding chins or naturally small chins may choose to undergo this procedure to improve their appearance. The chin implant is made out of durable and safe materials, including silicone, Dacron, and Teflon. In some cases, actual bone and tissue may be utilized for the implant.

Benefits of Chin Implants

Every patient has their own reasons for choosing to undergo a chin implant procedure, so the benefits can vary from patient to patient. Common chin implant benefits include:

  • Stronger chin
  • Increased self-esteem
  • A balanced facial appearance
  • Minimal scarring

How are Chin Implants Performed?

Depending on the extent of the procedure, you’ll either receive a local anesthetic injection or be put under general anesthesia. If a single implant is to be made, you’ll receive local anesthesia, and an incision is made in the chin’s natural cleft. The implant is then inserted and positioned, and the opening is sutured.

If bone reconstruction is required, general anesthesia will be administered. This method may require additional incisions in order to perform the necessary improvements, and would be located around the jawline and chin.

Preparing For Chin Implants

To prepare for your chin implant, you’ll receive instructions based on the type of anesthesia you’ll require. You won’t be allowed to eat or drink for a prescribed amount of time before the procedure if you’ll be receiving general anesthesia. If you are put under general anesthesia, you should also arrange for transportation to and from the procedure, as you will not be allowed to drive afterward.

Recovery from Chin Implants

Swelling and bruising in the area should be expected immediately following the procedure. Expect to experience minimal discomfort for the week following chin implant surgery. After a week, patients can return to every day activities.

How Much Do Chin Implants Cost?

Chin implants are typically considered to be an elective procedure, which most insurance companies do not cover. To help make chin implants affordable for New Jersey patients, we accept CareCredit®. To discuss your financial options, feel free to contact us.

Is a Chin Implant Right For Me?

Patients who are good candidates for chin implants are those who are in good health and are looking to improve the appearance of their chin. They may dislike their naturally weak or small chin, or have been affected by a defect or injury which has altered the look of the chin.
