How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, which is applied to the eyelid. Depending on the location which will be treated, the incision is typically made in the crease of the eye or near the lower lashes. Skin and fat deposits are removed or repositioned to tighten skin and muscle. The surgical site is closed with sutures or adhesive.
Preparing For Surgery
Patients need to be in good health to undergo a blepharoplasty procedure so we recommend making lifestyle changes before the procedure to ensure you are in good shape. Patients should quit smoking, as smoking can alter the healing process. We will review your current medication list and let you know if any should be discontinued before surgery. Please arrange for transportation to and from the procedure.
Recovery from Blepharoplasty
You will likely experience minor discomfort and bruising of the eyelids after surgery. For approximately 10 days after surgery, you’ll need to apply prescribed ointments as well as cold compresses to promote healing. Please take care to protect your eyelids from sun exposure during the recovery period.
How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?
Most eyelid surgeries are considered elective, meaning your insurance may not pay for the procedure. We offer financing through CareCredit® to cover the cost of your surgery. If you have questions about your insurance coverage or financing, please contact us.
Is it Right For Me?
Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) are those who have loose, sagging skin on the eyelids. If your vision is obstructed by excess skin and tissue in the eyelid, you can benefit from this procedure. If you’re bothered by the appearance of your eyelids or under-eye bags, you should consider eyelid surgery.
