Adolescent/Pediatric Care in Princeton and Monroe, NJ

Adolescents and young children have a greater tendency to develop ear, nose and throat problems than most adults do. If your child is suffering, you can relax knowing that knowledgeable and compassionate care is available from board-certified otolaryngologist Dr. Scott Kay, FACS, of the Central New Jersey area, serving the nearby areas of Princeton, Monroe and Plainsboro.

What is Adolescent/Pediatric Care?

Adolescent/pediatric care refers to the treatment of children for issues related to the ears, nose or throat.

Benefits of Adolescent/Pediatric Care

Children require different treatment methods than adults since their bodies are still developing. In addition, the cause of ear, nose and throat problems tend to be much different in children than they are in adults. As such, children need specialized care to meet their unique needs.

How are Adolescents Treated?

Dr. Kay performs a wide variety of treatments for children, ranging from irrigating the ears and nose to surgical procedures. Although he uses many of the same treatments for both children and adults, the manner in which he performs them may be different in order to ensure the child is as relaxed and comfortable as possible.

Preparing for Adolescent/Pediatric Care

Before bringing your child to our office, reassure him or her that everything will be fine. If your child has a favorite toy or blanket, feel free to bring it along for comfort. Write down as much information as you can about your child’s symptoms to help Dr. Kay make an accurate diagnosis. This information should include any medications you have given and their dosage amounts, including over-the-counter ones.

Adolescent/Pediatric Care Recovery

Only after rendering a diagnosis can Dr. Kay provide you with recovery instructions. You will be given them before you leave our office.

How Much Does Adolescent/Pediatric Care Cost?

That depends on the severity of your child’s condition. Most adolescent conditions are rather mild, which means they are also inexpensive to treat. Conditions that require surgery or multiple office visits will cost more. To make care as affordable as possible, we accept most major health insurance plans, along with cash, personal checks, major credit cards and CareCredit® financing.

Is Adolescent/Pediatric Care Right for Me?

Rely on your instincts to tell you when it’s time to seek medical treatment for your child. Even so, there are certain conditions that definitely indicate it’s time to see a physician, a few of which are:

  • Fever of 103° Fahrenheit or higher that persists despite efforts to reduce it
  • Foreign objects in the ears, nose or mouth
  • Extreme trauma to the face or neck
  • Extreme pain in any facial area
  • Sudden loss of hearing or eyesight

If you’re unsure, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and make an appointment.

What to Expect During Your Consultation for Adolescent/Pediatric Care ?

He may also examine the ears by looking into them with an otoscope, or using a tongue depressor and special light to view the mouth and throat. Swabs of the tonsils and/or throat may be taken as well. After examining your child, he will then order any further tests he deems necessary.
